When I stop exercising I crave chocolate
« Result #3 on Mar 25, 2006, 12:17am »

I've noticed lately, I've been really busy with the website and haven't had much time to spend at the gym, and have noticed that I am getting killer cravings for chocolate. Anyone else find this ? I guess the answer is just to go back to the gym !

 Reading Nutritional Panels
« Result #4 on Mar 29, 2005, 7:50am »

Nutritional panels are included on packaging to allow you to make informed decisions about the nutritional content of the food you are purchasing.

Depending on the country that you live in, and the government regulations in place the format of the nutritional panel will vary somewhat.

However, they may look something like this panel from a breakfast meusli bar:

Nutrition Information

Servings per pack 6 Serving size 35 g

Energy 540 kJ (per 35 g) 1540 kj (per 100g)
Protein 2.1 g (per 35 g) 6.0 g (per 100g)
Fat Total 0.8 g (per 35 g) 2.4 g (per 100 g)
Saturated Fat >0.1 g (per 35 g) >0.1 g(per 100 g)

Carbohydrate Total 24.5 g (per 35 g) 69.8 g (per 100 g)

Sugars 5.3 g (per 35 g) 15 g (per 100 g)

Dietary Fiber 3.2 g (per 35 g) 9.2 g (per 100g)
Sodium 32 mg (per 35 g) 90 mg (per 100 g)

You can deduct from this nutrition panel that the calories from this product comes from mostly carbohydrates, is low in fat - especially saturated fat, is relatively high in fiber, if you consider that a serving of breakfast cereal will have similar amounts of fiber and is relatively low in salt (sodium). To check how much of each nutritional element you'll be receiving when you eat a serving, check the column indicating values for each serving.

2.28% of the energy from the above product is from fat (0.8/35 x 100/1), 15.15% of the energy is from carbohydrate sugars.

Another similar product says that it has 1.6 g per serve of fat, but 10.7 g per serve of sugars and each serve is 36.7 g. This means that calories in this product are 4.3% fat (1.6/36.7 x 100/1) and 29.16% carbohydrate sugars.

Given that we want to reduce our fat intake, but also our sugar intake because it has a high amount of calories, I know which one I'd choose to lose weight.

 Sticky: Notes for reading research
« Result #6 on Feb 15, 2005, 7:47pm »

1. Never read research in isolation. Before the conclusions can be considered viable, other independent research needs to confirm the original results.

2. A control group, is a group of individuals within the sample group that they are researching, and researchers use the control group as a baseline. They use this group to compare to the group that they gave the experimental treatment to - to see what effect the treatment had.

3. A placebo group, is a group of individuals within the sample group that receive a similar in appearance treatment to that of the treatment group. For example: Research testing the effects of a drug will give the placebo group a pill that is the same color, size, shape and taste as that of the drug that they are testing. They do this to eliminate any unconscious bias of the individuals that they are testing.

4. Double blind conditions refer to conditions that researchers use during their research. When they use double blind conditions, this means that neither the subjects being used in the research or the administrators or testers conducting the research know which is the treatment, or which is the placebo treatment. This allows the researchers to eliminate any unconcsious bias of the individuals that they are testing or the individuals that are administering the testing. These conditions are pretty much standard amongst reputable research.

Hi Everyone,

When you want to post your food journal, make sure you:

Start a new thread

Send me a photo to info@savvy-fat-burning-food.com and I will post it along side your food journal thread.

I know that everyone is busy, but food journalling everyday, helps everyone realise exactly what they're putting into their bodies and aids in educating ourselves about the personal issues involved with our eating and weight loss. If you possibly can, journal everyday.

Happy food journalling
